Ever since the Royal Wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has become a household name across the United States and Europe. Women were trying to figure out what it was that caught the prince’s eyes. Meghan is a beautiful woman and has a unique look that draws attention, but she looks different than how she appeared earlier in her career. Much of the change in her face is her maturation and the loss of the “baby fat” compared to past photos.
However, her nose does look distinctly different and isn’t likely to result from the natural aging process. Although she has never admitted to undergoing plastic surgery, it is safe to assume that her nose has changed. This makes many women consult with plastic surgeons to see if they can make their noses look like Meghan’s.
Celebrity Nose is Not the Final Result
It is essential to understand that when considering plastic surgery, we do not take a nose “off the shelf.”
The final result seen in a particular patient is almost certainly a result of the pre-existing anatomy and surgeon’s skill. Indeed, you cannot routinely request a celebrity nose and have that as the expected final result.
Since Meghan’s nose has generated much attention, it is worth analyzing the results to educate patients who want to have a rhinoplasty procedure.

The Anatomy of Meghan Markle’s Nose
As seen in her school photos, Meghan had a wider nose with what we call a “bulbous tip,” indicating that she had more width and less definition than most women prefer in their nasal shape. She did have attractive dorsal aesthetic lines in her photos, indicating that the bone and cartilage had a strong, clean line extending from the inside of the brow down to the tip where it slightly flares. This is more classic for an attractive nose and something we often attempt to do in rhinoplasty.
Overall, Meghan had an attractive nose, but one that could use a little more definition and refinement, especially if that is what the patient desired.
Comparing her nose to later photos, it seems pretty clear that some adjustments are made to her nasal anatomy. Although the surgery was never confirmed, there is no other way for these changes to occur.

The Difference in Appearance
Presently, her nose appears thinner and less bulbous at the tip. The tip itself has almost become more “defined” as it doesn’t blend in with the rest of the nose’s anatomy. Due to the lack of support in the nostril rims, she has some mild notching of the rims making the tip even more highlighted.
Her dorsal aesthetic lines have been altered and are no longer strong from the brow to the tip. Her lines become somewhat indistinct at the middle third of the nose. This lack of definition leads to a loss of the classic, clean lines we strive to achieve in this area.
A residual bump remains on the bridge from the angled view, and then a dip in the lower to mid-third of the nose is evident. This corresponds with the lack of definition seen along the bridge from the frontal view.
The ideal bridge is straight and maintains a uniform height along the entire length of the nose. This helps to create the shadows that enhance the nose from the front. The tip does slightly over-project, but this is balanced with Meghan’s strong bone structure. The slight increase in tip projection accentuates the lack of strength at the lower third of the bridge.
The Ideal Nose for You
As we have shown, Meghan has some imperfections in her nose despite a previous rhinoplasty. That said, she is still a beautiful woman and can carry this off without an issue. However, women seeking to enhance the shape of their nose must remember that every nose is unique.
Meghan Markle’s nose, in particular, is fitted to compliment the shape of her face naturally. This is something those who consider undergoing a rhinoplasty must keep in mind during their initial consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
While there is an overall improvement in her appearance, this is not what rhinoplasty surgeons such as myself would use as an example of an ideal surgical goal. Generally, we would want to create a nose in balance with uniform lines and elegant transitions. No nose is perfect, but a great nose is one that perfectly complements the natural shape and structure of the face. No nose should be an example of what patients are requesting when considering rhinoplasty surgery.
