Since the introduction of BOTOX injections and Restylane to the cosmetic injectable market in 2002 and 2003, the options available to physicians have markedly grown. Today there are a number of soft tissue fillers available and now two separate muscle-paralyzing agents, BOTOX injections, and Dysport.
Dr. Marin’s extensive experience with non-invasive procedures gives him the flexibility to make the best recommendations for our patients. In San Diego, demand for skin rejuvenation treatments such as BOTOX Cosmetic injections and dermal fillers continues to climb whether they are used to postpone or refine surgical intervention. They also serve as a great tool to maintain an ongoing relationship with patients.
“Injectables are really the icing on the cake because surgery does not do it all. Dermal fillers add the artistic completion of the picture for post surgical patients. Those who are not surgical candidates can still enjoy subtle, improvements to their appearance. Injectables give me the platform to meet patients anywhere along the continuum. I don’t want to have someone else start or finish my work for me.”

BOTOX and Dysport Injections
BOTOX and Dysport injections are used to help improve facial appearance by softening frown lines and elevating drooping eyebrows.
Hyaluronic Acid Soft Tissue Fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers are great for plumping thin lips, softening smile lines, filling facial wrinkles, and enhancing cheeks.
Radiesse
Radiesse helps restore facial volume by stimulating the body to produce its own collagen to achieve the desired youthful fullness.
Sculptra
Sculptra is used to enhance facial volume on a broader scale by making the body produce collagen along the cheeks, smile lines, and jaw.
Off label Uses
Many of the treatment areas where dermal fillers and BOTOX injections are used are commonly in locations considered “off-label” by the FDA. This means that the FDA has approved the particular product for a very specific area, and any use outside of this is “off-label.” Physicians have the right to use any FDA approved drug in this manner as long as it is consistent with the original intent of the approval. This is how many of the most important discoveries in medicine have been achieved.
As an example, BOTOX injections are only approved to treat the frown muscles between the brows, but not on the forehead. Physicians have safely found it to be as, if not more effective, in many other areas of the face producing wonderful “off-label” results. It is likely that Dr. Marin may suggest an off-label use of the dermal fillers or BOTOX injections depending upon your particular needs.
It is for these reasons that all dermal fillers and BOTOX injections should be performed by a fully licensed and trained physician.
