hump and tip refinementSome patients suffer from nasal deformities that cause functional problems, while other patients have nasal cosmetic issues they are interested in reversing. Regardless of the reasons patients seek out surgery, it’s essential to choose a surgeon with years of experience. Rhinoplasty is a complicated process and requires the highest level of skill from surgeons like Dr. Vincent Marin. One common cosmetic nasal issue that patients often want to be resolved with plastic surgery is bump reduction and tip refinement.

Many patients feel self-conscious about a bump on the nose’s bridge or a large, bulbous, or rounded tip. These aesthetic problems can be quickly addressed through rhinoplasty. To reduce the hump and produce a nice slope to the nose’s bridge, Dr. Marin will reshape the underlying cartilage. Dr. Marin can also refine the cartilage at the nose’s tip to create a more sculpted look.

Candidates

Any patient interested in changing the nose’s appearance, whether for functional or cosmetic reasons, is generally a right candidate for rhinoplasty surgery. Anyone interested in the surgery must complete his or her growth spurt. The nose can change in appearance and size as someone continues to grow, so the patient must be at least in their mid to late teen years. Also, a candidate should be healthy enough to tolerate surgery. Finally, rhinoplasty candidates should have realistic expectations for nose alterations. These expectations will be discussed thoroughly in a consultation appointment.

Choosing a Surgeon

While it may seem as though removing a hump from the bridge of the nose or refining the tip of the nose is a simple procedure, it requires the precision and skill of a top plastic surgeon. Removing a hump, or refining a tip of the nose, requires detailed consultations, careful planning, and the right techniques to achieve the desired results.

Consultation

The consultation is one of the most critical parts of the surgery process because this is when patients and Dr. Marin discuss the desired look that will be achieved with a hump and tip refinement surgery. During the consultation, the doctor and patient will run through a list of exactly what they can do to achieve a symmetrical and refined look. For example, some patients will want to straighten out a crooked bridge, reduce a hump, or soften a rounded nose. Regardless of the look a patient is trying to achieve, Dr. Marin will develop an appropriate surgical plan.

Procedure and Recovery

Rhinoplasty for a hump or tip refinement is a somewhat complicated procedure. However, rest assured that any patient is in the best hands with Dr. Marin. During the procedure, Dr. Marin will follow the appropriate surgical plan. Because each nose is different, each surgery will be slightly different.

During a rhinoplasty, local anesthesia and sedation will be used to achieve the best results. Often, a splint will be placed on your nose during the recovery process.
